A star village on the Ile de Ré

Nestled on the north coast at the western end of the island, Les Portes en Ré is considered the 'posh' village of the island. Many celebrities and celebrities take up residence here in the summer. The Place de la Liberté is one of the most prominent places. There are many decorative shops, cafés and restaurants where you can stroll on the terrace. There is a nice market every morning in the summer.

If you prefer cultural activities, you can visit the church of Saint-Eutrope, the former station of the little train of the island of Ré or the salt shed of the old port of Portes. History buffs will want to take a walk to the Portes redoubt, to the east of the village. This 38m square building, which was built by Vauban, was constructed at the end of the 17th century to prevent any landing on the Banc du Bûcheron and access to the Fier d'Ars. Take the opportunity to visit the chapel of the Redoubt, dedicated to Our Lady of the Sailors, erected in 1674 at the Pointe des Portes.

The other asset of the village of Les Portes-en-Ré is its magnificent beaches. These include the Petit Bec beach, the Lizay beach, the Gros Jonc beach and the Trousse-Chemise beach. Here, all the water sports pleasures are available: swimming, sailing, kitesurfing, paddle, sea kayaking, windsurfing, sea fishing... Are you a surfing fan? You'll find what you're looking for on the Lizay beach, the Petit Bec and Diamond Head, three popular spots for surfers.

A wild and preserved nature

Between beaches, forests and marshes, Les Portes en Ré is a protected village, surrounded by a generous nature. The cycle track takes you as close as possible to the Lilleau des Niges nature reserve, a real jewel of biodiversity and a bird paradise. You then cycle through the salt marshes to reach the Maison du Fier, set up in an old salt works. The place hosts exhibitions on the fauna, flora and landscapes of the island.
